Premium Standard Farms

Premium Standard Farms have been recognized as "Food Plant of the Year" by Refrigerated and Frozen Foods magazine.

For this award Calvin Held (Premuim Standard Farms' vice president of operators) said: "We are extremely proud of our associates in helping our facility earn such an honor. We have been successful in achieving our goals, but only because we have had the involvement and good ideas of all our associates."

The company also received consideration for their innovation. The company said they were the first pork company to implement a Process Verified Program, in which company practices for quality and safety are verified by the USDA. Premium Standard Farms were also the first in the United States of America to incorporate modern CO2-anesthetizing.

Premium Standard Farms have bought a CO2-stunning system, Jumbo 8 from Butina ApS. The system operates at 900+ pigs/ hour.
